What? Traditional Conservative-Labour marginal with a recent rise in UKIP support. One of the few marginals in the north east of England.

Where? In County Durham, very close to Middlesbrough.

Why? Conservative MP James Wharton’s majority of just 332 votes in 2010 makes this a prime Labour target. Failure for Labour to gain here would not bode well for the party’s fortunes. Rise in UKIP support will complicate proceedings.
