50 marginal constituencies
1 general election
Brentford and Isleworth

For the final results in each of 50for15's constituencies, see this post.

What? A key London Conservative-Labour marginal.

Where? South-west Greater London, very near Heathrow airport.

Why? Labour’s gains in recent European elections in London will make the party keen to get back this west London constituency. Debate in the constituency will be complicated by the fact that national Conservative and Labour parties support Heathrow expansion, but both local candidates oppose such a move.

It’s a slim Conservative majority overall, but who won and who lost in 50for15’s seats?

Instead of a hung Parliament, which most people had predicted, the Conservatives ended up winning a slim majority. With 331 seats under their belt, they have a majority of five, if you take the view that 326 seats constitutes a majority (650 divided by 2, plus 1), or a majority of ten when you take into...

“Never say never!” Daniel Goldsmith, the Green candidate for Brentford & Isleworth, on how his candidacy can shake up the local contest.

“I think unless there is some terrible environmental catastrophe, I’m not likely to win… I mean never say never!” A candidate’s admission of their chances being this slight is rare to come across, but Goldsmith’s remark shows how victory in an electoral contest does not have to come in the form of winning the most...

Meet Lawrence Audini-McCambridge, the independent who has no time for local issues

There was a surprising moment half-way through my conversation with Lawrence McCambridge-Audini, an independent candidate standing in Brentford and Isleworth – we had discussed the banking system, big business, America, Rhodesia, and Lord Macaulay’s 1835 speech on India, among other political topics, and I was assuming that at any moment, in the customary manner of...

What makes for good political leadership? We ask the people of Brentford and Isleworth

The leadership debates were a dominant narrative in the 2010 general election, and contestation over which parties will be included in televised debates next year is already rife. 50for15 wanted to take a step back to think about what we actually think good leadership is. In Brentford and Isleworth, a key Labour-Conservative marginal, currently represented by...
